• Utilizing caution when installing Android applications

  One of the biggest caveats when it comes to downloading any application onto your Android device is the permissions that an app requests. An application can be programmed to do just about anything that it wants. This includes, but is not limited to, send SMS, intercept phone calls, send private data, etc. All of this can be set to be performed unbeknownst to you. However, in order for the apps to do so, they must be granted the permission to do so. Although the lack of initial moderation on the Android Market may be as much of a problem as it is a benefit, any app that has requested permissions that tie into any type of personal data causes a permission warning to display before you can install. So what kind of things should you look out for when installing a new application in order to avoid potential trouble and billing catastrophies? Read on to find out.

• TD Bank Mobile App – Intentional BlackBerry omission?

  The U.S. smartphone market has changed so dramatically over the five years. There is no doubt about that. Motions have shifted and the current reigning kings in the industry are iOS, Android, and BlackBerry. There are also the obvious runners up such as WebOS and the upcoming Windows Phone 7 (yes, a runner up because it has built enough hype to get it there but doesn’t have the chance to earn top status until release).

  TD Bank, the bank known very well for its convenient hours and exceptional customer service, has finally released a much anticipated mobile application for customers on the go. Immediately after seeing the advertisement online, I downloaded it onto my Nexus One. It works great. But then I noticed the available device list and saw that it is only available for iOS and Android. So where’s the BlackBerry love?

• Android suffering due to Google account fragmentation

  For those who might be asking “why the rainbow Andy?”, take a look at the Google logo and then I think you’ll realize why I colored him like that.

  Are you an Android user who uses Google Apps as their e-mail service? If so, you too have probably experienced the frustration of multiple services not being able to authenticate properly with your Google Account that shares the same credentials. The issue is a known one that has been acknowledged multiple times.

  Is it enough to make me give Google and Android the middle finger? Absolutely not. I understand the complexity of the separation of their account types. But that doesn’t mean I can’t rant about it! After the break is a rant I posted over at Android Central and I just felt like sharing it here.

• Yep, RIM and AT&T officially unveil the BB6 equipped 9800

  And just like that, it is official. As reported last week, RIM and AT&T renewed their vows to celebrate the birth of the Torch line into the BlackBerry world. With the Torch line now joining the series rankings which also include Bold, Curve, Pearl, and Tour (RIP), there’s definitely a good variety of device styles within the family.

• “Hack a Day” loses their cred outside of iFanboys

  I think everyone will agree that when it comes to blogging about anything outside of your own personal rants, it is extremely important to do your research first. Clearly, this logic applies to any type of reporting, journalism, etc. and was taught to us all the way back in grammar school when we did our first book reports. Without supporting research, you are setting yourself up for a lot of backlash from your readers if you post incorrect information. Well good job Hack a Day! You have proved my point to a T.

  In a recent Hack a Day article, the folks talked about the features that they would love to see in the upcoming Android 3.0. But clearly they picked the wrong blogger for the job. If there is one thing that is clear in the article, it is that the blogger has made sweet love to his iPhone and didn’t skip on the after-love-making cuddling, and that he has never held an Android device for more than about five minutes.
